Hailing from the Shenandoah Valley at the foot of Virginias Blue Ridge Mountains is Sun-Dried Opossum. Formed in 1997, SDO is a 5-piece band writing songs that are true to their roots. Their music is best described as solid Rock n Roll, heavily influenced by Southern Rock & Blues with exciting improvisational jams. Think Allman Brothers Band & Drive-By Truckers with danceable grooves ala Phish.
The SDO line-up consists of Alex Arbaugh and Steve Sutton on guitars and vocals. Eric Clinedinst (bass), Mike Frick Martin (percussion), and Torrey Patterson (drums) hold down a tight and powerful rhythm section. The group has independently released two CDs. First came 1999s Goose Creek Explosion. The self-titled Sun-Dried was released in 2001. Their third disc, Back Up will be released first quarter 2005. Los Angeles based producer Andrew Alekel produced, recorded, and mixed the disc. Andrew has worked with Rancid, The Ataris, Weezer, Rufio, Fireball Ministry and many more. His expertise has yielded the most accurate portrayal of the band captured in the studio thus far.
Sun-Dried has opened shows for Donna The Buffalo, The Wailers, Joe Bonamassa, Carbon Leaf, Tony Trischka, and more. On August 15th, 2004 they warmed up the side stage crowd for The Dead show at Nissan Pavilion. The band is renowned for their high-energy live performances. Impressed by what they heard, surprise audience members have occasionally asked if they could join SDO on stage. Two such favorites are Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers Band) and Bill McKay (Leftover Salmon).
SDO plays over 100 shows each year, keeping their chops tight and the music solid. The band is eager to hit the road in support of Back Up and expand their fan base into new markets.
